In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week and National Breastfeeding Month, I’m sharing from our 100 Words Project every day.
Breastfeeding my two babies were two of the best experiences of my life, ones that I cherish. I breast fed Jen and Justin for a total of 5 1/2 years ! I breast fed Jen for 2 1/2 years and will always remember with tears the day she weaned herself. At that point she was nursing for comfort and before she went to sleep. As nap time approached, I held her and she began sucking. She stopped, looked up at me with wide eyes, and said, “Stems, stems,” and pointed to my breast. I have no idea what the word “stems” meant, but she would not nurse. Not ever again. My milk had turned to colostrum. It was almost time for baby brother to be born.
