In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week and National Breastfeeding Month, I’m sharing from our 100 Words Project every day.
With baby #1, I told myself it would be really, really hard. It was at first, but it’s what I expected, so I stuck with it. Initially I used a shield, then didn’t need it. The blisters went away, the discomfort went away (except the twinge during letdown), and my son nursed for a year. My production was low after starting back to work, but I made it through. When baby #2 was born, she was a super nurser from the beginning and I was an old pro at it, so it is a joy to nurse her. She is easily distracted by her brother and dad now (10 months old), but I still nurse her morning and night and I pump during the day. I wouldn’t trade anything for the special times breastfeeding my babies.
